This one-year, retroactive extension is not ideal. It is simply a band-aid for the 2014 tax year and does nothing to provide certainty to individuals and businesses for 2015. My constituent, Mary Joe, still will not know whether she can give money from her IRA to a Chicago charity without tax liability in 2015, nor does my constituent, Henry, know if he can receive an enhanced tax benefit for donating food items to charity in 2015.
I am deeply dismayed and concerned by the decision of the grand jury not to indict Ferguson, Missouri Police Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting of Michael Brown. Based on my interaction with constituents I expect that many thousands of others share that response and will express their concerns in peaceful public protests.
The cease fire between the Israeli and Palestinian forces seems to be holding . . . for the time being. That is a very good thing, but it is clear that the cease fire itself is not a blue print for a sustainable peace. If there is to be a sustainable peace, and there must be one, then the process must move forward, in the first place by the parties themselves. Statement in Support of Debo Adegbile to lead the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division
It is my strong conviction that Mr. Adegbile has the qualities to lead the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. Mr. Adegbile has demonstrated himself an effective advocate for civil rights and a tireless voice for equality. I unequivocally support Mr. Adegbile's candidacy and I urge the Senate to confirm him.
Congressman Danny K. Davis (D-IL07) released the following statement today:
"I am pleased to note that Chairman Dave Camp has released a proposed tax reform bill which will generate serious discussion and debate around taxation. The proposed legislation has several features with which I agree, others with which I disagree, and some of which I am uncertain about."
