You know, I’ve listened to all of the questions. And, as I listen, I’ve said to myself this reinforces to me the fact that I am a proud co-sponsor of the Butch-Lewis Act because it reassures tens of thousands of hard-working Americans in Illinois and across this nation that their government will protect their pensions from catastrophe. This markup is long overdue. In my District alone, at least $81 million in Central States pensions are at risk; in Illinois, over $3 billion in pensions are at-risk.

I applaud the Chairman and my colleagues for advancing the Economic Mobility Act and prioritizing children, families, and childless workers. Aside from the Affordable Care Act, this bill is probably the piece of legislation on which I will have voted that most directly and substantially improves the well-being of my constituents.

Mr. Chairman, I support this bill because it does much to support my constituents, my state, and our nation.

This bill includes important assistance for families struggling with medical costs and home foreclosures.

Committee on Ways and Means Markup of H.R. 3298, Child Care Quality and Access Act

U.S. Representative Danny K. Davis today introduced the DEMO Act that will establish a Health Professional Opportunity Grant (HPOG) demonstration program (HPOG) for people with arrest or conviction records. The Health Professional Opportunity Grant Demonstration Program is an evidence-based program that opens doors to help vulnerable workers obtain successful health careers.
