Washington, D.C. – Today Rep. Danny K. Davis voted to pass the historic Natural Resources Management Act, a bipartisan conservation and public lands package that includes permanent reauthorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and designates approximately 1.3 million acres of wilderness, 693,000 acres of recreation and conservation areas, and two mineral withdrawal areas totaling 370,000 acres, protecting nearly 2.4 million acres of public lands in total from future mining operations.
I strongly oppose, and will do all in my power to block, President Trump's "Gag Rule," a proposed regulation which would be devastating women’s basic health rights. This is an assault on the health care of the most vulnerable and under-served women and families in our nation and would heartlessly cut off access to "Title X" affordable contraception, critical health information and preventive health care. Title X is the only federal grant initiative dedicated to providing family planning services to low-income and otherwise under-served individuals. Title X is used by millions of women.
The President's rambling and contradictory statement, presented without any evidence-based justification declaring an emergency over a crisis that doesn’t exist – even going so far to say today that he ‘didn’t need to do this' is wrong on so many levels and unacceptable. After failing to convince Mexico, the American people or Congress to pay for his ineffective, wasteful, multi-billion concrete wall, the President is trying a desperate end-run around Congress with his unlawful emergency declaration.
