OVERVIEW
The 429 page bill is a massive and complex piece of legislation. Because it was developed in secrecy and has had no mark-ups or public input it will certainly undergo many changes as the public begins to appreciate the impact and as lobbyists go to work. It is not clear if the House and the Senate can come together on a unified bill to become law. The plan is to cram this bill through the House before those in opposition can express their concerns to their Members of Congress.

I write today to express my utter disgust with your handling of race relations in America in general and, more specifically, your calculated, divisive response to nationwide demonstrations against police brutality and racial injustice by professional football players, owners, coaches, and countless other patriots. African Americans are just as patriotic as any other American.

Here’s a recap of the budget’s most harmful proposals:

· Makes astonishing cuts to federal spending * It assumes $5.4 trillion in spending cuts that threaten top priorities like education, infrastructure, research, veteran benefits, and programs that expand opportunities for American families.

Davis Statement on Republican Tax Cuts
We have finally gotten our first glimpse of the much vaunted and hyped Republican tax cut plan. It’s worse than we expected. This is an audacious tax giveaway to the ultra rich. The tax cut program is based on hype, smoke and mirrors, phony economic models and sheer falsehoods. This is a plan for increasing economic inequality and for strangling the needs of working people.

Congressman Danny K. Davis today expressed his disappointment as it became clear, as reported on Politico today, that President Trump apparently will allow the three presidential advisory commissions focused on educational excellence for Hispanic, African American and Asian American and Pacific Islanders to expire without any discussions with the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus or the Congressional Asian American/Pacific Islander Caucus to expire:
