Invitation from Congressman Danny K. Davis:
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Danny K. Davis joined with Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-CA) and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) who spearheaded an effort by 104 House Members to call for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to withdraw its proposed Refusal of Care rule. This rule would dramatically expand the ways in which the personal beliefs of healthcare providers can dictate access to care for patients — a discriminatory policy that would be especially harmful to women and LGBTQ individuals.
On Wednesday, 83 House Democrats, including Representative Danny K. Davis released a letter they signed to House Leadership in both parties and to Appropriators calling for the Dream Act to be attached to the Omnibus spending bill the House will vote on this week or next. The lawmakers also asked that the government funding bill be free from increased spending on immigrant deportation and detention and free from further border militarization. The full letter (pdf) can be found here.
The letter states:
WASHINGTON, DC –Today, three Ranking Members from the Ways and Means Committee sent a letter to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) and Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), requesting the Committee provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) with at least an additional $560 million in FY 2018 over total FY 2017 funding.
Reps. Danny K. Davis (D-IL07) and Bill Pascrell, Jr., (D-NJ09) today introduced The Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act (HR 5103) - legislation to prevent gun violence and increase community safety by increasing the federal taxes on guns and ammunition, including closing current loopholes that allow some of the most popular and deadly firearms to avoid taxation and regulation.
Background on Gallagher/Davis bi-partisan Trauma Informed Care Resolution:
