Washington, DC - The restaurant industry is one of the hardest-hit industries by the dual health and economic crises. The workers. The owners. The suppliers. All have lost. In Chicago, restaurants undergird the economy of entire neighborhoods. Chinatown. Greektown. Little Italy. Downtown. They are all hurting. The traditional soul food eateries are basically wiped out, like MacArthur’s or Wallace’s Catfish Corner. If a big restaurant like Lawry’s lacks the resources to continue, these smaller businesses have little chance.

I know that in the Jewish tradition those who die at the New Year, Rosh Hashanah, are considered special. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was certainly special. Diminutive in physical size, she was a giant in the struggle for equality, a giant in the struggle for justice to perfect our democracy. She was the embodiment of the commandment ‘justice, justice, you shall pursue,’ which, I understand, hung in her chambers in Hebrew.
Whoever replaces her has giant shoes to fill.

Mr. DAVIS. Madam Speaker, today I rise to tell my colleagues during this week that ends with National POW/MIA Recognition Day about my district’s 78-year old Maywood Bataan Memorial Day tradition. This service honors the men from the village of Maywood, Illinois who became prisoners of war after fighting from December 7, 1941 to April 9, 1942 against invading Imperial Japanese forces in the Philippines.

Washington, D.C. – Today,House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee Chairman John B. Larson (D-CT) and Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Chairman Danny K. Davis (D-IL) sent a letter to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) asking them to conduct a study on service delivery by the Social Security Administration (SSA) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Illinois Congressional Delegation sent a bipartisan letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) urging federal resources to support the expansion of SHIELD T3, an innovative system of COVID-19 testing and tracing, developed by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
