Congressman Danny K. Davis Statement In Support of the Revised Heroes Act

September 30, 2020

SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

WASH, DC - Madam Speaker, I will be casting my YEA vote for the revised HEROES act. It will not fully meet the needs imposed on our nation due to the COVID virus, but I am hopeful it will get us through the next several months until we can implement a comprehensive solution to the multiple crises we are confronting: the COVID virus, the economic recession, global warming and the ongoing crisis in our democracy stemming from the persistence of two, separate and unequal justice systems in our nation. I am proud that this bill incorporates all or portions of at least three bills I have authored and several other bills which fall under the jurisdiction of the sub-committee I am honored to chair. Immediate relief includes: SNAP: $10B, WIC: $400M, Second Chance Act: $250M, Homeonwers Assist: $21B, State/Local Relief: $459B, Broadband Expansion: $12B, Transit Relief: $32B, Tenant-Based Rental Assist: $4B (Public Housing), Emergency Rental Assistance: $50B Family and Medical Leave Expansion, PPP Funding for small biz with added protection rules, Stimulus Checks: $1200; Dependent Checks: $500, SALT Tax deduction for 2020 filing year, UI: $600 per week/add’t 13 weeks of eligibility and Expanded ACA eligibility.
