Washington, D.C. – Today, U. S. Rep. Danny K. Davis joined U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07), Chairman Bill Pascrell (NJ-09), and Chairman Earl Blumenauer (OR-03) released a joint statement with 14 members of the House Ways and Means Committee expressing support for the Haitian people and reaffirming the Committee's role in promoting trade policies that foster economic development and improve conditions for workers.

Read any grade or high school civics text and you will find soaring rhetoric about our commitment to individual liberty and equality, to freedom of the press, freedom of religion, due process, right to vote, freedom of association and right to organize ... For most Americans, those noble ideals are what we love most about our country. Today’s Supreme Court decision on President Trump’s “Muslim ban” reminds us that history does not bear out the reality of life in America in such simple terms.

Anti-immigrant rhetoric and hysteria were a central theme of Donald Trump’s campaign for the presidency. That continues to be a central theme of his presidency. Based on false assertions, or as they are now termed by his circle, alternate facts, Trump falsely claimed that immigrants were a security threat (not true, with exception of 9-11, it is well documented that most terrorist attacks are homegrown).
