Today, Representative Davis voted to finalize $14,335,783 in Community Project Funding that he previously secured for Illinois’s 7th District in the 2024 spending bills. This funding, included in the first of the appropriations government funding packages, responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in Austin, Bellwood, Bronzeville, Chicago, East Garfield Park, Englewood, Maywood, Oak Park, South Austin, West Garfield Park, and West Humboldt Park. “I am incredibly pleased to vote for $14,335,783 in Community Project Funding in this bill that I know will have a profound impact on Illinois’s 7th District,” Rep. Davis said. “These investments grow our economy, making a real difference in the lives of so many in our community. I am proud to have fought for funding that will make our community healthier, safer, and stronger.”

Representatives Danny K. Davis (D-IL) and Michael Lawler (R-NY) introduced the Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACE) Act to provide critical investments in the primary prevention of adverse childhood experiences and their related negative outcomes. “Strengthening children and families is important to preventing and mitigating adverse childhood experiences,” said Rep. Davis.  “The Preventing Adverse Childhood Experiences (PACE) Act will help states and communities promote healthy childhoods and advance research so children can thrive.  I am pleased to join with Rep. Lawler to lead this important bill to help grow happy and healthy children.”

Today, Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Ranking Member Danny K. Davis (D-IL) led Democratic Members who have served on the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee during the 118th Congress in sending a letter to Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Martin O’Malley calling for action to address high benefit denial rates for individuals, particularly children, who are disabled by Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and the disproportionate harm to Black children and other low-income communities caused by SSA’s current regulations. Ranking Member Davis was joined on the letter by all of the Democratic members who have served on the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee this Congress: Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA), Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI), Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA), Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), and Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL).

Reps. Danny K. Davis (D-IL) and Brad R. Wenstrup, D.P.M. (R-OH) introduced legislation that would increase affordable housing for homeless students - including homeless youth, veterans, and foster youth - by improving the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. The Housing for Homeless Students Act would create a limited exception to the LIHTC student rule to allow homeless or recently homeless individuals who are full time students to live in LIHTC units.

Representatives Danny K. Davis (D-IL), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), and Linda Sánchez introduced the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit Enhancement Act to permanently expand child care tax credits to help working families receive up to $4,000 for one child or $8,000 for two or more children to cover child care costs. In 2021, Reps. Davis, DelBene, and Sánchez secured the temporary expansion of the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit that almost quadrupled the average tax credit from more than $550 among households that claimed the credit in 2020 to more than $2,100 in 2021.
