U. S. REP. DANNY K. DAVIS TO SERVE ON THE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE FOR THE AMERICA COMPETES ACT OF 2022
Washington, D.C. – U. S. Representative Danny K. Davis was appointed to the America COMPETES Act of 2022 conference committee. The America COMPETES Act would invest in cutting-edge science and technology to protect critical supply chains, support manufacturing jobs, and maintain America’s competitive edge.
Davis said, “I look forward to serving on the America COMPETES Act committee, which will pave the way to create good-paying manufacturing jobs here at home and decreases the cost of manufactured good in the United States. The America COMPETES Act will provide the foundation for generations to come while they compete in technology and manufacturing.”
Decades of outsourcing have eroded domestic manufacturing jobs and made the U.S. reliant on imports for many manufactured goods. Manufacturing has long been a core strength of the American economy, but increasing global competition has threatened many high-quality jobs. Since January 2000, the United States has lost over a quarter of all domestic manufacturing jobs, a decline of over 4.7 million. In addition, increased competition cost the U.S. approximately 985,000 manufacturing jobs between 1991 and 2011.
The America COMPETES Act includes investing $52 billion to produce more semiconductor chips in America and $45 billion to advance manufacturing at home, which will help address supply chain disruptions that increase costs for Americans.
