Two Second Chance Act Solicitations Released
Bureau of Justice Assistance Releases Second Chance Act Comprehensive Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Planning Program Grant Solicitation
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance recently released the solicitation for the Second Chance Act Comprehensive Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Planning Program. This grant program offers funding to state correctional agencies or State Administering Agencies to help them develop and implement comprehensive recidivism reduction plans that:
- Focus on the offenders most likely to recidivate;
- Use evidence-based programs proven to work;
- Deploy supervision policies and practices that balance sanctions and treatment;
- Target places where crime and recidivism rates are high.
The FY13 Recidivism Reduction solicitation will provide up to $100,000 to states to undertake a twelve-month planning process, during which they will comprehensively assess their system and identify policy and practice changes that will have the greatest impact on recidivism rates. Grantees that successfully complete the planning phase may be eligible for $1-$3 million implementation awards that will enable states to implement their strategic plan for recidivism reduction in future years.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Releases Second Chance Act Reentry Program for Juveniles with Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Health Disorders Solicitation
The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention recently released the grant solicitation for the Second Chance Act Reentry Program for Juveniles with Co-Occurring Substance Abuse and Mental Health Disorders. This grant program offers funding to state and local governments and federally recognized tribal governments to implement or expand treatment programs for juveniles with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. These programs should improve the delivery of treatment services for juveniles, and they should include both pre- and post-release programming for all participants. This solicitation will provide up to $600,000 for a two-year grant program.
