Statement on the Passing of Representative Cummings

My friend and colleague Representative Elijah Cummings was called home today. Elijah Cummings was a man of the people. He was a tireless, effective, dedicated public servant, a man of faith and humanity and dignity, a man who committed his life to the quest for social, economic and environmental justice. I know that, because of his life's work, hundreds other young men and women will rise to follow in his footsteps. America will miss him, this Congress will miss him, the host of those who called him family or friend will miss him and I will miss him.
