Statement on Discovery of Child's Body in Garfield Park

Like all of Chicago, I was shocked and deeply saddened to read of the discovery of an infant’s body in the Garfield Park Lagoon. Any child who dies is a heartbreak but this extraordinarily horrific case tears deep at the heart of us all. Though we do not yet know the child’s identity, my heartfelt sympathies go out to the parents and family. The authorities are making every effort to determine the identity of the child and the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. I urge anyone with information about a missing child or other information relevant to the case to share that information with the police.
