Rep. Davis Funds $5 million in Local Projects
Washington, D.C.- March 9, 2022, Representative Danny K. Davis (D-IL) issued the following statement after House Passage of the FY22 funding bill, Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022.
“Today, I am proud to have secured $4.482 million in Congressionally-directed funding for 10 projects in my Chicago communities,” said Rep. Davis. “The needs in my Congressional District are great, and this funding will provide an infusion of federal support to multiple organizations serving Chicagoans on the front lines. The funds will help: improve physical and social services; offer high-caliber information technology programs to youth under-represented in STEM fields; expand quality out-of-school programs; provide law-enforcement-led youth-engagement activities; upgrade education technology to strengthen higher education; and reduce the racial tech gap. These projects will improve opportunities for thousands of my constituents.”
Davis continued, “I must be clear that there were elements of this bill with which I fundamentally disagree – such as increasing funding for defense and the office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These provisions were requirements by Republican policymakers to advance this bill that ends the Trump budgets and enacts a comprehensive funding package rather than limit the federal government’s ability to meet the current needs of Americans. My vote in support of the bill was necessary to deliver transformative federal investments to help working families with the cost of living, create American jobs, support small businesses, and care for the vulnerable.”
The following organizations will receive Congressionally-directed funding from the requests made by Representative Davis:
- Austin People Action’s Center - $450,000 for technology skills instruction for youth.
- Bright Leadership Institute - $500,000 for youth mentor and entrepreneur programs.
- Centers for New Horizons - $450,000 renovations to expand social services.
- East-West University - $240,000 for education technology upgrades.
- Fifth City Chicago Reformulation Corp. - $475,000 community center renovations.
- Habilitative Systems, Inc. - $500,000 for renovations to improve services.
- Rush University Medical Center - $696,000 for youth information technology training.
- Sankofa Safe Child Initiative - $275,000 for trauma-informed mental health youth services.
- Urban Transformation Network - $275,000 for youth training in urban agriculture.
- Village of Maywood - $621,000 for law-enforcement-led youth-engagement activities.
