REP. DANNY K. DAVIS SPONSORS AND APPLAUDS LEGISLATION TO HOLD RUSSIA ACCOUNTABLE FOR AN UNPROVOKED INVASION OF UKRAINE

March 26, 2022

Washington, DC—Today, Congressman Danny K. Davis (IL-07), who holds a leadership role on trade policy within the U. S. House of Representatives, joined his colleagues to support H.R. 6968, a bill to sanction and hold Russia accountable for their unprovoked invasion into Ukraine.

“As an original cosponsor of H.R. 6968, I fully support this legislation to continue sanctions on energy imports from Russia as a consequence of their aggressive act of invasion into Ukraine,”said Davis.

This legislation would ban Russian energy products (crude oil, petroleum, petroleum fuels, oils, and products of their distillation, liquefied natural gas, coal and coal products, among other products) into the U.S.  H.R. 6968 would require the United States Trade Representative to seek various options to remove Russia membership from the World Trade Organization.   Additionally, it would authorize President Biden to impose further sanctions on Russian energy products with certain exceptions for prior contractual obligations before enacting this bill and remain in effect until there is a congressional disapproval process.
