Davis Restates Opposition to Graham-Cassidy proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act

September 19, 2017

Today Congressman Danny K. Davis restated his oppostion to the Graham-Cassidy proposal to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

"This bill is a cruel and inhuman sham. It is being rushed along in an attempt to conceal from the American people the immensity of its impact. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has estimated that it would cause many millions of people to lose coverage, would gut protections for people with pre-existing conditions, radically restructure and deeply cut Medicaid, and increase out-of-pocket costs for individual market consumers. Starting with a cut of almost $50 billion, by 2027 it is estimated that reductions in funding for health care would reach $300 billion yearly. The Congressional Budget Office had estimated previous repeal efforts would result in 32 million individuals losing health insurance. This bill would likely exceed those estimates. I oppose this legislation and will do all in my power to defeat this shameful initiative."
