Davis Joins Call for Commission on Election Integrity to Withdraw Request for Voter Information

July 14, 2017

On June 28th, the President’s newly-formed “Commission on Election Integrity” (i.e., the voter fraud commission) sent a request to states for voter information including names, addresses, dates of birth, and last four digits of Social Security numbers. Beyond wholesale concerns with the Commission’s charge to investigate voter fraud in a manner that will likely lead to more voter suppression efforts, the Commission’s request presents massive privacy and security concerns. The Commission’s letter proposed to have states transfer this private information by unsecured email and will centralize the voter information of all 50 states, providing a single target for bad actors to target if they want to access this private information.

Congressman Davis added his name to a letter asking the Commission to withdraw its request to the states given the massive privacy concerns at stake.
