CONGRESSMAN DAVIS SAYS NO TO BOEHNER'S PLAN B

December 19, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC (DECEMBER 19, 2012) – STATEMENT BY CONGRESSMAN DAVIS ON SPEAKER BOEHNER'S PROPOSAL - CITES NO PROTECTIONS FOR THE POOR

Today, I ardently oppose the Republican tax bill that burdens middle-class, elderly, and struggling Americans, that undermines our economic growth, and that gives a windfall to the wealthy. It is cruel to eliminate emergency unemployment benefits that provide critical assistance for over 2 million Americans – including 90,000 Illinoisans – while gifting millionaires an additional $50,000 a year.

It is poor leadership to slash Medicare, eliminate tax cuts on which 25 million students and families rely, and terminate significant business incentives while protecting the most privileged in our society. I resolutely, emphatically, and whole-heartedly oppose the Republican “Plan B”. Speaker Boehner should move to "Plan C - CONSIDERATION" of a balanced approach to solving this crisis.
