CONGRESSMAN DANNY K. DAVIS STATEMENT ON FY18 BUDGET AGREEMENT

Congressman Danny K. Davis Statement on the 2018 Budget

WASHINGTON, DC —Today, U.S. Representative Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) released the following statement on his NO vote on the FY18 Budget Agreement.

"This Budget agreement reflects the disheartening dysfunction of our government. Had Republican leaders decided to work with Democrats from the start, we could have advanced policies to strengthen our nation – not partisan missilesto explode the wealth of donors and demolish the middle class. This bill includes many quality bipartisan policies that I have championed, yet it took a government shutdown, a debt limit ceiling breach, unnecessary and unwise spending on nuclear weapons and a threat of another shutdown to convince Republicans to support policies that help Americans rather than obstruct."

"This bill remains fundamentally flawed in its failure to protect Dreamers. This exclusion is a true abdication of leadership that reflects a moral and Congressional failure to care for vulnerable citizens. Republican leaders cruelly manufactured a crisis for the Dreamers in order to advance partisan immigration policies that undermine economic growth, defy actual immigration facts, and inflict harm on vulnerable individuals – especially those from Africa and Haiti."
