CONGRESSMAN DANNY K. DAVIS CELEBRATES JUNETEENTH: A DAY OF REFLECTION, UNITY, AND PROGRESS

June 19, 2024

Chicago  – Congressman Danny K. Davis proudly acknowledges and celebrates Juneteenth as a significant day of reflection, unity, and progress for our nation. As the Congressman who first initiated the recognition of Juneteenth (see https://www.congress.gov/u/ngx4_V0bmQATjqywdrsHN), later introduced by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and signed by President Joe Biden, Congressman Davis is honored to know this day embraced by communities across the country.

Juneteenth marks a time for us to come together and recognize the progress we have made in our ongoing journey toward justice, equality, and understanding. It is a day to reflect on our shared history, celebrate our cultural diversity, and commit to the work that still lies ahead.

"Initiating the recognition of Juneteenth was a crucial step towards acknowledging the historical and cultural significance of this day," said Congressman Davis. "It is a reminder of the resilience and strength of our communities and a call to action to continue striving for a more just and equitable society."

Throughout the country, Juneteenth has become a day of various commemorative activities, including educational programs, cultural events, and community gatherings. These activities not only honor the past but also inspire future generations to uphold the values of justice, equality, and unity.

Congressman Davis extends his heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported and participated in Juneteenth's recognition. "Together, we can continue to build bridges of understanding and create a future where every individual is respected and valued," he said.

As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of equality, justice, and unity. Let this day serve as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the power we hold as a united community.
