“I applaud President Biden for installing Kilolo Kijakazi as Acting Commissioner of the Social Security Administration.  Former Commissioner Andrew Saul and former Deputy Social Security Commissioner David Black advanced policies to cut Social Security, deny disability benefits for older severely-disabled workers, reduce due process protections for Social Security appeals, and violate labor laws, with the effect of limiting benefits to some of the most vulnerable individuals in our nation.  The Supreme Court’s decision in the case of Collins v. Yellen made clear that the removal power helps the President ensure that the head of an agency serves the people effectively and in line with the policies of the elected President.  Removing these holdovers from the prior administration reassures the public that the senior leadership of the Social Security Administration will protect Social Security and value its dedicated workforce so that they can assist Americans who rely on Social Security.”
