WASHINGTON, DC (JUNE 13, 2011) - REP. DANNY K. DAVIS (D-IL) TO HOST A FATHERHOOD BRIEFING TITLED THE FATHER FACTOR 

Please join Members of Congress and their staff and representatives of fatherhood coalitions from across country for a briefing examining the father factor on June 14, 2011 at 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center room HVC- 201.  The briefing will specifically focus on:

  • Congressional Research Service will discuss findings from a commissioned report on fatherhood programs in light of current economic and budgetary conditions, such as continued high unemployment in the wake of the Great Recession, cutbacks to expansions begun as policy responses to the recession and the challenges of the longer-term budget environment;
  • Fatherhood Coalitions will discuss the importance of a father's role in a child's development and well-being of American families and communities. Diverse representatives will a range of barriers to responsible fatherhood unique to their servicing population; and
  • The Administration & Members of Congress will present inter-agency initiatives and proposed legislation aimed at providing economically disadvantaged fathers assistance in becoming productive members of society by enhancing employment opportunities for them.
