Rep. Davis Announces New ARRA Grants to District Community Health Centers

Representative Danny K. Davis (D-IL07) today announced two new grantsto IL07 Community Health Centers funded by the American Recovery andReinvestment Act (ARRA).  Lawndale Christian Health Center was awarded$10,000,000 and PCC Community Wellness Center received 4,053,042.

Davis stated, "These two grants are only the latest support CommunityHealth Centers in the 7th Congressional District have received throughthe ARRA.  Together, Access Community Health Network, Alivio MedicalCenter, Circle Family Care, Erie Family Health Center, LawndaleChristian Health Center, Near North Health Service Corporation and PCCCommunity Wellness Center, all of whom serve populations in theDistrict, have received over $32,800,000."

Davis continued, "These dollars are among the most effectiveinvestments in the health of our community.  Community Health Centersstrive to provide services that are available and affordable foreveryone, and especially to low-income individuals and families.  Theircoverage is comprehensive, including medical, dental, and mental healthservices, with emphasis on prevention and primary care.  CommunityHealth Centers are committed to providing high quality, cost-effectivecare to everyone, especially those who are medically underserved.  Ihave been involved with the development Community Health Centers almostsince their inception.  Now, my role on the House Ways and MeansCommittee provides a means for me to advocate for a significantincrease in the role of these centers and I have worked to ensure thatthe ARRA and the health reform legislation passed by the House mademaximum use of the community centered health care model.  The healthcare reform bill passed by the House would further expand thepopulation served by the centers by almost tenfold and that would be avery good thing for the health of the American people."
