The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Weekend 2026 is a three-day community observance dedicated to honoring Dr. King’s legacy through education, service, and civic responsibility. The event will take place January 17–19, 2026, at Malcolm X College on Chicago’s West Side and is free and open to the public.
The weekend begins on Friday, January 17, with a Breakfast and College Fair, designed to connect students and families with educational opportunities, academic resources, and pathways to higher education. On Saturday, January 18, the focus shifts to health and wellness with a Health and Human Services Fair, bringing together community organizations and service providers to share information, resources, and support for individuals and families. The weekend concludes on Sunday, January 19, with Civic Engagement programming, centered on nonpartisan civic participation, community involvement, and public service awareness.
The Community Weekend includes participation from Congressman Danny K. Davis, State Representative La Shawn K. Ford, and Coach Dorothy Gaters of MLK Friends of Basketball, reflecting a shared commitment to youth development, education, and community empowerment.
Grounded in the enduring vision of Martin Luther King Jr., the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Weekend is an opportunity to move beyond reflection and toward action—bringing together education, health, and civic engagement to strengthen our community and advance the values Dr. King championed.
